The Nike Pegasus Trail 5 is a versatile trail running shoe designed for runners who split their time between roads and light trail terrain. Built as a daily trainer, it handles gravel paths, fire roads, and smooth single-track trails while remaining comfortable on pavement.

The midsole features Nike's ReactX foam, which delivers a soft, bouncy ride with improved energy return compared to the previous React formulation. The cushioning strikes a balance between protective and responsive, with a rocker geometry that promotes smooth heel-to-toe transitions. This setup works well for daily training runs, long distances, recovery efforts, and faster-paced workouts on mixed surfaces.

The Nike Pegasus Trail 5 uses a single-layer engineered mesh upper that provides lightweight breathability without hot spots. Flywire technology integrates with the lacing system to secure the midfoot, while a fully gusseted tongue keeps debris out. Soft padding in the tongue and heel area adds comfort, and a structured heel cup prevents slippage. The fit runs true to size with a balanced toebox width that accommodates natural foot shape.

The outsole is made from Nike's All Terrain Compound rubber with shallow lugs around 3.5mm deep. This configuration grips well on hard-packed dirt, gravel, and wet rocks in both dry and wet conditions, while remaining durable enough for regular pavement use.
