The Nike Pegasus 42 features a ReactX foam midsole paired with a full-length curved Air Zoom unit that runs the entire length of the shoe. This curved Air unit replaces the separate heel and forefoot pockets found in earlier versions, creating a more integrated responsive platform with around 15% greater energy return. The ride is firmer and more stable compared to heavily cushioned trainers, with a lively, springy character that works well at faster paces. An increased toe spring guides smooth transitions from midfoot to toe-off, while the balanced cushioning sits between soft and firm. The Nike Pegasus 42 delivers responsive energy without excessive sink, though the firmer landing may feel slightly jarring at very slow recovery paces.

The upper uses lightweight engineered mesh with a midfoot support band that locks down the foot during runs. The Nike Pegasus 42 adopts a more anatomical last with a roomier forefoot and toe box, accommodating wider foot profiles better than previous versions while maintaining a secure fit.
