The Adidas Adizero Boston 12 is a lightweight road running shoe designed as a versatile tempo trainer for daily training and uptempo workouts. It bridges the gap between race-day speed and training durability, making it suitable for tempo runs, intervals, progression runs, and faster-paced training sessions.

The midsole features a dual-density construction combining Lightstrike Pro foam in the forefoot for softer, more responsive cushioning with Lightstrike 2.0 in the heel for firmer support and durability. The Adidas Adizero Boston 12 incorporates EnergyRods 2.0, a fiberglass rod system similar to the Adios Pro 3 configuration, providing forward propulsion and snap without excessive stiffness. The ride is notably softer and bouncier than previous Boston versions while maintaining quick, responsive transitions and good ground feel. The shoe excels at faster paces but has become more versatile for general daily training at moderate speeds, though it may require a short break-in period of around 15 kilometers.

The upper consists of a single-layer engineered mesh that offers excellent breathability and a more relaxed fit than earlier versions. The thin, unpadded tongue sits free-floating rather than gusseted, and internal midfoot reinforcements work with the lacing system to provide structure. The fit runs true to size with a lower volume overall, featuring a snug heel, normal to slightly narrow midfoot, and normal to slightly wide forefoot. The flexible heel counter provides minimal padding, and while the upper is lightweight and breathable, some runners may find the lacing system challenging to dial in for optimal lockdown.

The outsole uses Continental rubber covering nearly the entire forefoot, delivering excellent grip on road surfaces and strong durability. Exposed foam appears in strategic areas at the midfoot and small sections of the forefoot, while deeper carve-outs and a crash pad at the rear assist smooth transitions. The Adidas Adizero Boston 12 features well-placed flex grooves across the forefoot and a rocker geometry that supports quick turnover on paved roads and asphalt.
