The Puma Velocity Nitro 5 is a daily training shoe designed for road running. Built as an everyday workhorse, it handles varied training from recovery runs to race-prep mileage and long weekend efforts.

The Velocity Nitro 5 uses a NITROFOAM midsole that delivers lightweight, responsive cushioning with solid energy return. The foam platform has been widened under the entire foot to improve stability, particularly useful late in runs when form begins to break down. The ride feels fast and nimble for a daily trainer, making the Puma Velocity Nitro 5 suitable for midweek running at moderate paces as well as easier recovery sessions. The midsole has been slightly resculpted from previous versions for a smoother overall feel.

The upper features engineered mesh for breathability with extra padding added to both the tongue and heel collar for comfort. The fit runs true to size but narrow, with limited room across the midfoot and forefoot. The lacing system provides secure lockdown, and the additional padding helps prevent rubbing during longer efforts.

The outsole uses PUMAGRIP, a durable rubber compound that provides reliable grip across varied road surfaces. Testing on canal towpaths and mixed terrain showed the Puma Velocity Nitro 5 maintains traction well, and the rubber holds up over higher mileage with an expected lifespan around 800 km. The outsole coverage is designed for asphalt and paved routes.
