The HOKA CIELO X1 2.0 is a lightweight road racing super shoe designed for 5K to marathon distances. Built for competitive runners with neutral mechanics and efficient footstrike patterns, it targets those seeking a fast, aggressive race-day option.

The midsole features dual-layer supercritical PEBA foam paired with a full-length carbon fiber plate that includes a forked heel design for added flexibility. The ride is bouncy, propulsive, and highly responsive with strong energy return. An ultra-aggressive forefoot rocker and pronounced heel bevel create a forward-driving sensation that works best at threshold pace and faster, particularly below 4:40 min/km. The geometry of the CIELO X1 2.0 encourages a midfoot or forefoot landing and feels less comfortable at easy training paces.

The upper uses engineered jacquard mesh that's thin and highly breathable, with subtle overlays providing midfoot lockdown. A padded heel collar offers more cushioning than typical racing shoes, while the non-gusseted tongue remains minimal. The lacing system has been improved over the original version. Stability is limited due to a medial midsole cutout and narrow platform, making the shoe unsuitable for overpronators or heavy heel strikers—it's best suited for neutral runners with centered footstrike mechanics.

The outsole features strategic rubber placement in high-wear zones with a large cutout through the middle section to reduce weight. Grip is adequate on dry road surfaces but less effective in wet conditions. The HOKA CIELO X1 2.0 is intended exclusively for road racing and track use.
