The ASICS GEL-CONTEND 9 features an AMPLIFOAM+ EVA midsole that delivers a firm, stable ride with minimal bounce. A small piece of GEL technology sits in the heel to absorb shock on landing, though the overall cushioning remains on the firmer side with limited forefoot padding. The midsole lacks significant energy return, producing a dampened feel that works well for controlled easy runs and mixing running with gym workouts but may feel lifeless at faster paces or over longer distances. The gentle toe spring assists with toe-off without relying on maximalist rocker geometry.

The engineered jacquard mesh upper offers excellent breathability with numerous ventilation openings throughout the toebox.
