The Salomon XA PRO 3D V9 GORE-TEX is a crossover trail shoe that bridges the gap between trail runners and lightweight trail shoes. Designed for fast-and-light missions over technical terrain, it combines the protection and stability of a more robust trail shoe with the lighter weight of a traditional trail runner, making it suitable for day outings on trails, trail running, and mixed trail-and-run adventures.

The midsole uses EnergyCell+ foam, a high-rebound EVA compound that delivers medium cushioning with a firm, planted underfoot feel. The 3D Advanced Chassis, a rigid TPE frame sandwiched between the midsole and outsole, provides exceptional torsional stability and helps resist lateral rolling on uneven ground. The ride is responsive but not plush, with solid shock absorption and a level, grounded platform that inspires confidence on technical descents. The Salomon XA PRO 3D V9 GORE-TEX performs best at moderate paces on mixed terrain where stability and protection matter more than speed.

The upper features a GORE-TEX membrane that provides waterproof protection while maintaining above-average breathability for a waterproof shoe. The Quicklace system offers fast, secure one-pull tightening with a pocket to tuck away excess lace. SensiFit technology wraps the foot for a secure, comfortable fit, while a thick padded tongue prevents lace bite. The synthetic mesh upper is reinforced with a substantial rubber toe cap and heat-pressed TPU overlays around the heel and midfoot, creating a durable, protective shell that handles rough trails and rock scrambles.

The All Terrain Contagrip outsole uses Salomon's proprietary rubber compound with approximately 3mm lugs arranged in a traditional pattern. The Salomon XA PRO 3D V9 GORE-TEX grips well on dirt, gravel, and dry rock, with adequate traction on wet surfaces and good mud-shedding capabilities. The full-length rubber coverage and integrated rock plate provide underfoot protection on rocky and rooty trails, though the outsole performs better on mixed terrain than in deep mud or on slick rock.
