The Salomon XA PRO 3D V9 features an EnergyCell+ midsole that delivers a firm, stable ride rather than plush cushioning. A 3D Advanced Chassis—a TPU frame sandwiched between the midsole and outsole—enhances torsional rigidity and reduces excessive foot movement on uneven terrain. The shoe's firm character makes it best suited for moderate-paced trail runs, long trail outings, and ultra running where protection matters more than responsive energy return.

The upper combines synthetic materials and mesh with a Gore-Tex membrane in waterproof versions, providing weather protection while maintaining adequate breathability. A Quicklace system allows fast, single-pull adjustment with a storage pocket, though the mesh forefoot area is more susceptible to snagging on overgrown trails.
