The Speedcross 6 features a firmer EnergyCell+ EVA midsole with a 33mm heel and 21mm forefoot stack that prioritizes underfoot protection over plush cushioning. The responsive foam provides adequate protection on rough terrain while maintaining decent ground feel, particularly in the forefoot. The relatively high stack and firm character make the Salomon Speedcross 6 best suited for heel strikers on technical trails rather than long road efforts or forefoot running.

The upper combines synthetic materials and mesh in a snug Sensifit construction that wraps around the midfoot for a locked-in, sock-like fit. The Speedcross 6 uses Salomon's QuickLace system for rapid adjustment, while a high heel counter delivers substantial ankle support on uneven ground. The updated mesh offers improved breathability compared to earlier versions, though ventilation remains limited, making this shoe better suited to cooler conditions than warm weather trail running.

The outsole uses Salomon's proprietary Mud Contagrip rubber compound with arrow-shaped lugs measuring 5.5mm deep. Wide spacing between lugs allows the Salomon Speedcross 6 to shed mud efficiently, while the aggressive pattern delivers exceptional grip on loose trails, wet rock, snow, and muddy surfaces. The lugs extend over the toe bumper and outer edges for enhanced traction on steep climbs and off-camber sections, though performance on hardpack trails is less impressive.
