The Salomon S/LAB Pulsar 4 is a lightweight trail racing shoe designed for moderate to technical terrain. Built for short to mid-distance efforts ranging from vertical kilometer races to events up to 50 miles, it balances speed-focused performance with increased cushioning and protection compared to earlier versions.

The midsole features a dual-layer foam system with optiFOAM+ on top—a responsive PEBA and EVA blend that delivers energetic toe-off—and a denser optiFOAM base layer that provides stability and structure on technical sections. A Profeel Film sits between the midsole and outsole for rock protection. The Salomon S/LAB Pulsar 4 offers a smoother, more forgiving ride than its predecessors, with no carbon plate, relying instead on foam geometry and Active Chassis sidewalls that cradle the foot for guidance through uneven terrain. The shoe excels at faster paces on rolling and technical trails, delivering responsive energy on climbs and solid protection on descents.

The upper is constructed from Matryx material incorporating aramid fibers for tear resistance and breathability. A gusseted tongue keeps debris out, while the QuickLace system with lace garage allows fast adjustments and a secure, sock-like fit. The Salomon S/LAB Pulsar 4 runs true to size but leans narrow, with a wider toebox than previous Pulsar models yet still a precise overall fit. The improved ankle collar provides a locked-in feel, and Active Chassis sidewalls rising from the midsole enhance stability without compromising agility on technical terrain.

The Contagrip All Terrain rubber outsole features 3.5mm lugs with increased ground contact surface area compared to earlier versions. The Salomon S/LAB Pulsar 4 delivers consistent grip across diverse surfaces including hardpack, rock, snow, and loose dirt, though the modest lug depth may struggle in deep mud. The outsole strikes a balance between versatility and traction, performing well on compact trails, wet roots, and gravel while maintaining durability for extended use on mixed terrain.
