The Salomon Pulsar uses optiFOAM2 midsole technology, a compressed bead TPU construction that delivers balanced cushioning with good responsiveness. The ride feels light and springy without being overly soft, maintaining firmness that supports stability and control on uneven ground. An integrated Energy Blade TPU plate adds propulsion and rock protection while keeping the platform flexible enough for natural foot movement. The combination works well for daily training at steady paces as well as faster efforts and tempo runs on trails.

The upper features breathable mesh construction with Salomon's SensiFit wrap system for secure midfoot lockdown. The Quicklace system allows fast adjustment and tucks away in a small garage on the tongue. A semi-rigid heel counter provides structure without being overly stiff, while the moderately padded tongue adds comfort. The fit runs true to size but leans toward the narrower side, particularly in the toebox and forefoot, making the Pulsar better suited for medium to narrow feet.

The Salomon Pulsar uses Contagrip rubber on the outsole with 4mm lugs that handle a wide range of surfaces from pavement to rocky trails. Traction performs well on dry terrain including loose dirt and rock slab, though grip drops off noticeably in wet or muddy conditions. The lug pattern and rubber compound make the shoe capable on groomed trails, dirt roads, and occasional road sections, though the shorter lugs limit performance on steep or heavily technical terrain.
