The On Cloudultra 3 is a trail running shoe designed for ultra-distance training and long runs across varied terrain. It targets runners seeking a firm, efficient platform for extended trail miles rather than plush cushioning.

The midsole features a dual-layer Helion HF hyperfoam that delivers a firm, responsive ride with good energy return. On's CloudTec technology uses individual hollow pods that compress on impact and rebound during push-off. A full-length TPU Speedboard rock plate protects against sharp rocks and roots while adding a propulsive, rockered feel for efficient turnover during long efforts. The Cloudultra 3 favors a snappy, forward-driving character over soft cushioning, making it well-suited for sustained trail sessions where fatigue reduction comes from efficiency rather than maximum padding.

The upper uses quick-drying Leno weave mesh with TPU overlays at the toe and heel for durability and protection. A fully gusseted, padded tongue with an additional stretch strap ensures secure lockdown without debris intrusion. The heel collar is well-padded for comfort during extended wear. The fit runs true to size with adequate toe room and a snug midfoot, though the construction may feel narrow for wider feet.

The Missiongrip rubber outsole features chevron-pattern lugs that provide reliable grip on mixed terrain including gravel, dirt trails, rocks, and wet surfaces. While not the deepest lugs available, the On Cloudultra 3 handles technical sections confidently and resists debris accumulation better than previous On models.
