Nike PEGASUS PLUS 2 running shoes

The Nike Pegasus Plus 2 is a neutral daily trainer designed for road running. It suits runners looking for a versatile shoe that handles easy runs, long distances, and uptempo efforts.

The midsole combines full-length ZoomX foam with a curved Air Zoom unit in the forefoot. The ZoomX provides moderately bouncy and resilient cushioning, while the Air Zoom unit adds a propulsive feeling during toe-off. The Nike Pegasus Plus 2 delivers 18% more energy return compared to the original version, making it most responsive at marathon pace. The 10mm drop and substantial stack height offer ample protection for easy and long runs, though the higher drop may feel less natural for midfoot or forefoot strikers.

The upper uses a multi-zoned single-layer mesh that replaced the original FlyKnit construction. It features a fully gusseted tongue with strategic padding and a caged lacing system with sawtooth laces. The Nike Pegasus Plus 2 sits on a new last with a wider forefoot and higher overall volume for a more accommodating fit. A midfoot containment band wraps the foot to provide secure lockdown during varied-pace efforts. The heel and ankle collar are well-padded for comfort on longer runs.

The outsole features Nike's waffle-design pattern with high rubber coverage for durability and grip. Flex grooves throughout the pattern maintain flexibility while providing reliable traction on wet roads. A large exposed midsole area sits in the midfoot, reducing weight but potentially affecting long-term durability of the ZoomX foam.
