The Nike MAXFLY 2 is a competition-focused track spike designed for elite sprinters and advanced athletes racing distances from 60 metres to 400 metres, including hurdles and relays. This spike is built for explosive speed and maximum propulsion during the acceleration and top-speed phases of sprinting.

The Nike MAXFLY 2 features a unique midsole setup with premium ZoomX foam positioned only in the heel, while the forefoot eliminates traditional foam entirely in favour of a dual-chamber Air Zoom unit. This configuration delivers explosive bounce and strong energy return, compressed by a full-length carbon Flyplate borrowed from Nike's road racing technology. The ride feels stiff and highly responsive, with an aggressive negative drop that positions the forefoot higher than the heel to promote powerful forefoot striking. The spike is best suited for competition and key speed workouts rather than daily training.

The upper uses Flyweave material with a structured, thicker construction that conforms to the foot for a secure, race-ready fit. The material is soft enough to wear with or without socks, though breathability is moderate due to limited airflow through the tighter weave. The Nike MAXFLY 2 fits wider than typical sprint spikes, particularly around the ball of the foot and base of the pinky toe, though it runs slightly small overall. The spike plate features six removable pins in a revised layout from the original seven-pin design, with the middle spike removed and the big-toe side elevated for improved stability on both straightaways and curves.

The spike plate is made from carbon fibre with a flatter profile than the original MAXFLY and a textured finish for added traction beyond the pins alone. Dozens of small traction lugs complement the pin setup for grip during push-off. The Nike MAXFLY 2 is intended exclusively for synthetic track surfaces and competition environments where maximum propulsion and responsiveness are prioritised over durability.
