The Nike ACG ULTRAFLY TRAIL features a dual-density ZoomX foam midsole with softer foam directly underfoot and a firmer carrier layer below. A 7/8-length split carbon fiber FlyPlate runs through the midsole, divided down the spine to flex with uneven terrain rather than resisting it. The exposed midsole design allows the foam to deform naturally on technical surfaces, while a ZoomX sockliner adds bounce. The cushioning delivers a firm, protective ride with responsive energy return suited to race-day efforts and faster training paces.

The upper uses a mesh construction prioritizing drainage over water resistance, making it suitable for wet conditions and stream crossings. A gusseted tongue and internal fit band help manage debris and water. The fit runs true to size but slightly narrow, particularly in the toe box, with a secure lockdown through the heel and midfoot. The lacing system provides good structure without excess overlays.

The Nike ACG ULTRAFLY TRAIL uses a Vibram Litebase or Megagrip outsole with 3mm to 3.5mm lugs that balance grip on rocky and technical terrain without excessive mud retention. The nearly full coverage rubber compound handles dry trails, hard-packed surfaces, and rocky sections effectively, though performance decreases on slick or muddy ground.
