The New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Elite V5 is a road racing super shoe built for neutral runners tackling distances from 10K to marathon. This fifth iteration represents a significant redesign with a 25% narrower platform, lighter weight, and more aggressive geometry compared to previous versions, making it suited for competitive racing and fast training efforts.

The midsole features a full-length stack of 100% PEBA FuelCell foam paired with a redesigned Energy Arc carbon plate system. The plate is notably stiffer than earlier versions and works with a concave midfoot cavity to store and release energy during toe-off. With 40mm of foam in the heel and 32mm in the forefoot, the New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Elite V5 delivers a firm, controlled ride that becomes more responsive as pace increases. The 8mm drop and modest forefoot rocker promote an aggressive racing posture. The platform feels stiff longitudinally and rewards tempo runs, marathon-paced efforts, and race day speeds rather than easy recovery paces.

The upper uses a single-layer engineered mesh with FANTOMFIT support elements that create a low-volume, locked-down fit while allowing room for foot swelling over long distances. The thin semi-gusseted tongue includes light padding and the semi-rigid heel counter with flexible collar provides secure hold without irritation. Breathability is strong thanks to zoned ventilation. The shoe fits true to size and is available in wide widths for runners needing extra room.

The outsole uses an ultra-light VPU polyurethane compound applied in a strategic pattern with triangular rubber pods across the forefoot and dual rubber strips at the heel. A large midfoot cutout exposes the midsole and Energy Arc plate beneath. Traction performs well on wet roads and dry pavement. The New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Elite V5 is designed exclusively for road surfaces and handles smooth asphalt and concrete effectively.
