The midsole features a dual-density construction with softer Enerzy NXT foam in the upper layer for cushioning and a firmer Wave Plate in the lower layer for stability and impact protection. With a 38mm heel and 30mm forefoot stack height, the Mizuno Wave Mujin 11 offers substantial cushioning while maintaining ground contact and proprioception rather than a maximal feel. The 8mm drop and balanced foam combination provide excellent muscular economy on long endurance runs at slow to moderate paces, though the shoe lacks reactivity for faster tempo work.

The upper uses a thicker technical mesh that prioritizes protection and structure, with reinforcements throughout especially at the rear, toe guard, and lateral sides. A sock-like tongue with an elastic retention strap provides a secure midfoot wrap, while the generous toe box and spacious heel counter accommodate foot swelling on long efforts. The breathable mesh resists cuts and tears, and the large fit suits runners with wider feet, though the upper may require a short break-in period.

The Vibram Megagrip outsole features 5mm lugs with wide spacing and micro-textured surfaces for grip optimization across varied terrain. The Mizuno Wave Mujin 11 excels on loose and muddy soil, rocky ground, roots, and wet conditions, offering particularly strong traction in humid and winter environments. The outsole adapts well to technical mountain trails, decomposed surfaces, and alpine terrain, though it performs less effectively on flat gravel paths and rolling ground.
