The Skyward X 2 features a dual-density midsole construction with a PEBA foam top layer paired with a supercritical EVA frame. A full-length carbon plate with a convex shape sits between the foam layers, creating a rolling sensation that encourages smooth transitions rather than sharp propulsion. The ride feels plush, bouncy, and energetic with controlled responsiveness. The HOKA Skyward X 2 excels at easy to moderate paces, typically suited for comfortable cruising around 4:40-5:00 min/km, recovery runs, and steady long-distance efforts. The midsole maintains its cushioned feel through high-mileage training blocks without feeling mushy.

The upper uses a thin engineered jacquard mesh that offers decent breathability and some stretch during break-in. The midfoot lockdown is secure and snug, supported by a lightly padded tongue without a gusset. The fit runs true to size for narrow to medium-volume feet, with a generous toe box. A narrow heel counter provides strong heel hold without Achilles irritation. Despite the tall stack, the shoe remains stable thanks to a wide platform base, sidewall flaring, the EVA frame wrapping the PEBA layer, and the rocker geometry.
