The midsole combines RMAT foam, a blend of EVA and rubber, with HIP CMEVA cushioning to deliver substantial underfoot protection across long distances. With 35mm of cushioning in the heel and 31mm in the forefoot, the HOKA MAFATE SPEED 2 absorbs impact effectively during extended efforts while maintaining responsiveness through the Meta-Rocker geometry. The deep Active Foot frame positions the foot slightly recessed into the sole, allowing the soft cushioning to conform to surfaces. This setup works well for steady-paced trail runs where comfort over distance matters more than ground feel.

The upper uses a No Sew SpeedFrame construction with an external Monomesh debris screen that keeps trail debris out while maintaining breathability. Rubberized reinforcements protect high-wear areas, and a toe bumper shields against rocks and roots. The conventional lacing system allows precise fit adjustment, while added padding around the ankle collar and tongue improves comfort during long efforts.

The Vibram Mega-Grip outsole features 5mm lugs that bite into soft, loose, and slippery surfaces including mud, snow, and wet trails.
