The Brooks Ghost 17 GTX uses DNA Loft v3 foam in the midsole, a nitrogen-infused EVA that delivers balanced cushioning without excessive softness or firmness. The ride prioritizes comfort and protection over energy return, making it well-suited for easy-paced training runs and longer steady efforts rather than tempo work or speed sessions. The 36mm heel and 25mm forefoot stack provide solid shock absorption for daily mileage.

The Gore-Tex upper blocks water effectively while adding structure and stiffness compared to the standard Ghost 17. Breathability is minimal due to the waterproof membrane, which is expected in a weather-protected shoe. The fit runs true to size with a roomier feel than the regular Ghost 17, and the shoe features a partially gusseted tongue with an elastic keeper band to secure the laces. The extremely stiff heel counter and stable platform provide reliable support for neutral runners.

The Brooks Ghost 17 GTX features a RoadTack rubber outsole with enhanced coverage and improved tread patterns for wet traction and water drainage.
