The Brooks Ghost 17 is a neutral daily trainer designed for road running. It handles everything from easy recovery runs to uptempo efforts, making it a versatile choice for runners building base mileage or looking for a reliable all-purpose shoe.

The midsole features DNA Loft v3, a nitrogen-infused foam that delivers a soft yet responsive ride. The Ghost 17 adds cushioning compared to its predecessor, with 3mm more stack in the forefoot and 1mm in the heel, bringing the total stack to around 36mm in the heel and 26mm in the forefoot. The foam feels peppy and snappy without excessive bounce, absorbing impact while still allowing the runner to control the pace. This balance makes the Brooks Ghost 17 suitable for both easy daily miles and faster training sessions.

The upper uses a double jacquard air mesh construction with good breathability and a moderate thickness that stretches slightly with wear. The Brooks Ghost 17 features an extended heel collar for a more secure lockdown, a padded non-gusseted tongue, and TPU eyelets. The shoe offers a neutral platform with inherent stability from slightly bulging medial sidewalls and a flat ground contact area. The heel counter is sturdy, providing secure midfoot and heel support. The fit is true to size with a roomy toe box, and the shoe is available in multiple width options.

The outsole uses segmented RoadTack rubber with flex grooves in the forefoot for natural flexibility. The Brooks Ghost 17 provides reliable traction on paved surfaces including asphalt and concrete, and handles light trails and gravel adequately. The rubber coverage is generous with a modified layout that maintains stride flow while enhancing stability. The 10mm drop, reduced from the previous 12mm, brings the shoe in line with modern daily trainers and eliminates the forward-leaning sensation of earlier versions.
