The Brooks Caldera 8 is a max-cushioned trail running shoe designed for ultrarunning and long-distance trail efforts. Built for all-mountain terrain, it excels during extended training miles and ultra races where comfort over hours matters more than outright speed.

The Brooks Caldera 8 features a DNA Loft v3 midsole that delivers moderately soft cushioning without feeling mushy or unstable. The foam offers a responsive, bouncy character with smooth transitions, making it suitable for easy to moderate paces on varied trail terrain. While the high stack provides excellent impact absorption for long days on your feet, the lively feel allows for pace variations on smoother sections.

The upper combines breathable air mesh with integrated TPEE material for durability and protection while maintaining good ventilation. An offset lacing system reduces pressure on the top of the foot while securing the midfoot effectively, and the semi-gusseted tongue helps keep debris out. The heel counter is notably stiffer than the previous version and may require a short break-in period, while the wide midsole platform and deep sidewalls provide exceptional stability on uneven and off-camber terrain.

The TrailTack Green rubber outsole features multi-directional lugs at around 3.5mm depth, delivering dependable grip on wet rocks, mixed surfaces, and moderately technical trails. The compound performs comparably to premium rubber options, handling everything from smooth paths to loose, steep terrain. The lugs can collect mud in wet conditions but shed it reasonably well on drier surfaces.
