The ASICS METAFUJI TRAIL is a carbon-plated trail racing shoe designed for fast efforts on smooth, runnable terrain. Built with one of the tallest stack heights in the trail racing category, the METAFUJI TRAIL targets neutral runners seeking speed on less technical trails, gravel paths, and rolling terrain.

The midsole combines FF Turbo foam in the forefoot with FF Blast+ in the heel, sandwiching a full-length carbon fiber plate between the layers. This creates a firm, highly responsive ride that delivers snappy toe-offs and strong propulsion at faster paces. The ASICS METAFUJI TRAIL is best suited for uptempo efforts and race-pace running, particularly above 5:00 per kilometre, where the stiff platform works with the runner's mechanics. At slower paces, the extreme stiffness becomes uncomfortable, especially on uphills where the low drop and rigid forefoot create discomfort. The massive stack provides excellent rock protection and shock absorption, though the ride requires a break-in period and favours midfoot strikers over heel strikers.

The Motion Wrap TR upper uses lightweight, breathable mesh with a transparent design that sheds water quickly. The fit runs true to size but tends toward narrow, with a race-tight feel through the midfoot and a snug toe box. A semi-gusseted tongue provides good lockdown, paired with thin ribbon-style laces that hold securely. The padded heel collar offers comfort, though the upper construction is relatively delicate and prioritises weight savings over durability.

The ASICSGRIP rubber outsole features widely-spaced, shallow lugs that deliver solid traction on smooth trails, gravel, grass, and dirt in both wet and dry conditions. The lug depth sits around 3-4mm, making the METAFUJI TRAIL suitable for fast, non-technical terrain but limiting performance on loose, muddy, or highly technical surfaces where deeper lugs would be needed. The narrow heel and midfoot geometry can create instability on soft ground and aggressive turns, requiring stable mechanics for optimal performance. The outsole shows exceptional durability despite the shallow tread pattern.
